Harry Kemp, "Poet of the Dunes," first visited Provincetown in 1916 (when he appeared in the first performance of Eugene O'Neill's first play "Bound East for Cardiff") and died there forty-four years later. As an irrepressible bohemian and champion for an unemcumbered life from his dune shack on the back shore, he embodied in his life style and writing a quintessential aspect of the Provincetown spirit.
